Windom gets one up on Viking wrestlers

Minneota lost a pivotal match to Windom-Mountain lake Thursday night. It will likely drop them into fourth in the Sectional rankings.
Despite losing to the Cobras, 39-24 — they won two other matches on their home mat by beating Redwood Valley, 36-23 and Fulda/Murray Co. Central, 84-0.
In many ways it was a glorious night for the Vikings — who on Parents' Night honored three wrestlers for their career accomplishments.
Seniors Cole VanOverbeke, Shawn Buysse and Teddy Pesch all reached coveted plateaus.
VanOverbeke got his 100th career victory when he won a 12-2 tech foul match over Windom-ML — then took his 101st career win with a pin in 1:55 over Ryder Henning of Fulda/MCC.
Pesch and Buysse earned their 75th wins previously but, "We chose to honor them on Parent's Night," said Coach Joel Skillings.
Minneota's downball as a team came with their inability to close out the final three matches. Against Windom-ML and Redwood Valley, the Vikings were 0-6 in the top three weights.
The Vikings had four pins against Redwood Valley, with Kade Lozinski, Blake Reiss, VanOverbek and Buysse all getting pins.
And Zack Fier and Eric Carrasco had 7-5 wins to start off the match. Redwood Valley used three pins to get back in the match but fell just short. Minneota had a 36-17 lead but the Badgers scored the final 15 points of the match.
In the Windom-ML match, it was all tied at 12-12 after Pesch earned a nice 9-3 win over Kade Sammons. But Zach Spinks beat Blake Reiss 5-1; ranked Alex Borsgard pinned Tate Valerius and the Cobras were up, 24-12.
VanOverbeke gave Minneota a major decision win and Josh Laleman eked out a 1-0 victory on an escape over Osmar Roman Parada and Buysse got a forfeit to get the Vikings back in the match with a 25-24 lead.
But the final three matches all went the Cobras on two pins and a stunning 6-5 win by Jesse Jepsen of Windom'ML over Layne Lozinski at 195. Lozinski, down 5-3, rallied with a near fall on Jepsen but fell just a point short.
AGAINST FULDA/MCC, the Vikings didn't lose a match as the Warriors handed them eight forfeits.Reiss, Tate Walerius in 2:58; VanOverbeke; Laleman and Lozinski all recorded pins for the Vikings.
Minneota will wrestle in the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Tournament this weekend.
