Vikings open VB tourney with two wins
Minneota opened the ABC Midwest Volleyball Warehouse Tournament in Burnsville with a pair of wins Friday night.
They defeated Stephen-Argyle 25-7 and 25-15 in the first match and came back with a 25-7 and 25-12 sweep over Underwood.
The Vikings wll get a little tougher competition on Saturday when they open with seventh-ranked Mabel-Canton and could run into the state's No. 1-ranked team, Waterville-Elisian-Morristown.
The top-ranked team had a tough time with MACCRAY in their first game, winnng 25-13; 23-25 and 15-9.
Minneota rushed out to a quick 8-2 lead over Stephen Argyle and coasted to an easy Game One win. In the second contest, Morgah Hennen's serving and the hitting of Lydia Sussner and Lizzy Gllingham gave them the sweep.
In the nightcap, the Vikings ran up a 9-1 lead behind the serving of Lizzy Gillingham and the hitting of Natalee Rolbiecki and Sussner, then Abby Hennen served the final five points of the 25-7 win.
In the final set of the day, Abby Hennen served the first five point, Abby Rost seved the team from a 10-4 lead to a 18-6 lead before Underwood got to serve again.
Sydney Larson came off the bench with a couple of hits and a block and helped the team at the net.
Rolbiecki again showed up strong at the net and setter Morgan Kockelman ended the suspense with a smash for the 25-12 win.
