Vikings open playoffs with win over Hendricks

Minneota opened the Section 3A Tournament with a 66-41 win over Hendricks Friday afternoon.

Minneota now advances to play Yellow Medicine East, a 64-39 winner over MACCRAY. They play at 6 p.m. Tuesday at SMSU in Marshall.

Other North Section 3 winners were: Lac qui Parle Valley 71-47 over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Wabaso a 73-57 winner over Canby.

Lac qui Parle Valley will play Wabasso at 7:30 p.m., following the Minneota-YME game.

In the South, the games will be played on Monday .

Against Hendricks Minneota hit eight three-pointers and were led in scoring by Abby Hennen with 18 points and Lydia Sussner wtih 15. Emily Gillingham cashed in with 10.

Sussner had 19 rebounds in addition to her 15 points as the Vikings out-rebounded Hendricks, 30-24.

The Vikings took a 32-17 halftime lead and were never headed.
