Vikings finish off busy week; now 5-0

Minneota extended its winning streak to five straight to start the season after defeating Westbrook 48-32 on Saturday in the Candy Cane Classic in Okabena.
The Vikings, who went 2-0 in the two-day event, overcame a poor shooting performance in which they hit just 28 percent from the field, including just 1 of 17 from three-point range. Westbrook was even colder, hitting 26 percent of its shots from the field, including just 1 of 19 three-pointers.
Sawyer DeSmet notched another double-double with 14 points and 22 rebounds. It was his second 20-plus rebound performance of the week. Ryan Dalager had nine points, Lucas Rybinski eight, Max Rost seven, Peyton Sheik six and Lincoln Jerzak four. Sheik also pulled down nine rebounds, while Rost had a team-high seven assists and five steals.
Hudsen Jenniges with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Nathan Kuehl with 12 points paced Westbrook.

Minneota went on a 15-3 run over the final six minutes of the first half to take a nine-point halftime lead en route to a 64-49 win over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Friday night in the first day of the Candy Cane Classic in Okabena.
Max Rost led the Vikings (4-0) with 17 points to go along with five assists. Peyton Sheik had 13 points, Ryan Dalager 10, Tate Peterson eight and Lucas Rybinski seven. Sawyer DeSmet hooked 12 of the Vikings' 36 rebounds.
Leading 31-22 at halftime, Minneota scored the first six points of the second half on three-pointers by Rost and Sheik for a 15-point lead.
Logan Gass scored 15 points for the Coyotes (0-4). Sam Goedtke finished with 13 points.

Sawyer DeSmet pulled down 24 rebounds to go along with 12 points as Minneota routed Yellow Medicine East 64-37 last Thursday night in Minneota.
Neither team shot well; YME at 21 percent and Minneota 26 percent. The Vikings dominated the glass as evidenced by a 55-35 rebound advantage and were able to get second and third shots in several of their possessions. The Vikings shot well from the free-throw line, sinking 21 of 29.
Peyton Sheik added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Vikings (3-0). Max Rost finished with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Lincoln Jerzak delivered 10 points off the bench.
Jacob Peterson had nine points for the Sting (0-4). Drew Almich notched five points, nine rebounds and two assists.

All five Minneota starters reached double figures in scoring as the Vikings defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 61-54 in a Camden Conference clash in Tracy.
Ryan Dalager sparked the Vikings with 18 points and nine rebounds. Sawyer DeSmet had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Peyton Sheik also notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Max Rost and Lucas Rybinski chipped in 10 points apiece.
Dalager and Rybinski sniped for a trio of three-pointers each. Rost dished out six assists.
The Vikings (2-0) started out strong but went nearly eight minutes without scoring in the second half before eventually holding off the Panthers (1-3), who were coming off a 103-point effort against Renville County West.
Alex Munson had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Panthers. Trevor Smith finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
