Three Vikings undefeated at Milbank Duals
Three Minneota wrestlers came through the Milbank Duals unscathed on Saturday — and the Vikings finished 3-1 in team competition.
Their only team loss was to Harrisburg, SD, champion of the duals with a 4-0 record. They beat United (Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo, 43-22 to win the title.
The Vikings lost 44-22 to Harrisburg, then beat Milbank 54-19, Sioux Falls Washington, 58-18 and Lennox, 65-15,
Kade Lozinski had a great day for Minneota, with pins in all four of his matches. He got pins in 4:41; 1:07, 1:27 and :32.and went undefeated in a tournament for the first time this year. He was wrestling at 138 pounds..
Jonah Gruenes (145-152) took an injury default win, won another with a tech fall and had two pins along the way. He is now 18-3 on the year.
Zach Fier at 132 pounds took a nice 4-1 decision over Jagger Gribble of Harrisburg, then followed it up with 5-2 and 13-5 decisions. However, he lost his final match to Lennox, 4-1.
At 152 and 160, Blake Reiss won two decisions with a 24-second pin, a :34 pin and a 6-4 decision against Harrisburg — and he won a forfeit in this other match to remain undefeated on the day.
Eric Carrasco at 120 was 3-1 on the day, getting a pair of pins. Troy VanKeulen finsihed the duals with a 2-1 record and had a pin on the day.
Youngster Ezequiel Monzon, in his first time in the lineup at 120 pounds against Milbank, won on forfeit. Monzon is the youngster who had a bought with cancer, but who is winning that battle and is on the Vikings wrestling team.
For the first time this year, Minneota was able to bump Jackson Esping down to 220 pounds and insert Jayden Gamrak at heavyweight. They each were 2-1 with two pins each.
