Thomas Hennen named football MVP

On Monday senior quarterback Thomas Hennen was named the Most Valuable Teammate.
The award came at the annual football banquet at KB’s in Ghent.
Other team awards included:
Hardest Worker: Ty Lipinski
Most Improved: Blake Reiss
Offensive MVP: Cole Sanow
Defensive MVP: Shawn Buysse.
The JV Most Valuable teammate was AJ Myhre and the Viking Award went to Josh Laleman.

Named captains for 2019 were: seniors to be Blake Reiss, Logan Sussner, Cole Sanow and junior to be Jacob Hennen.
Also announced was the selection of six Vikings as all-district players; two as honorable mention and eight as all-academic selections.
They were:
Southwest District (All-District)
Seniors: Thomas Hennen, Ty Lipinski, Shawn Buysse, Cole VanOverbeke and Mitchell Rost.  Junior: Cole Sanow
Honorable Mention: Logan Sussner and Blake Reiss.
All-Academic (Southwest District)
Thomas Hennen; Tanner Sterzinger, Mitchell Rost, Cole VanOverbeke, Ty Lipinski, Cole Sanow, Logan Sussner and Blake Reiss.
Minneota finished the season with a 10-1 record after winning the Southwest District with an 8-0 record.
All-Area selections were: (first team) Cole Sanow and Cole VanOverbeke; (second team) Thomas Hennen, Ty Lipinski and Logan Sussner.
For the season, Thomas Hennen, who started as a wide receiver and switched to quarterback when his brother Jacob broke his wrist, threw for 1,066 yards on 59 of 114 passes. He completed 51.8 percent of his throws. He threw for 10 touchdowns with seven interceptions. And he rushed 65 times for 443 yards or 6.8 yards per attempt and scored eight touchdowns.
He also caught 10 passes for 223 yards with two more touchdowns.
Jacob Hennen completed 39 of 78 passes for 606 yards, a 50 percent completion rate.
Cole Sanow rushed 170 times for 1,442 yards, a rate of 8.5 yards per carry. He scored 25 touchdowns and two, two-point conversions.
The junior rushed for an average of 131.1 yards per game. Sanow also caught 19 passes for 229 yards or 12.1 yards per catch.
Blake Reiss had 48 rushes for 369 yards and LaShad Smith carried 34 times for 308 yards.
The pass receiving leader was Alex Salter with 19 receptions for 438 yards or 23.1 yards per catch. He scored two touchdowns.
Logan Sussner had 12 catches for 221 yards; Landon Rolbiecki 17 for 189 yards; Tate Walerius six for 140 yards and Reiss caught seven passes for 96 yards.
The defensive leader for Minneota was Shawn Buysse. He made 96 total tackles and helped with one sack. Reiss had 65 tackles, four of them for losses. Mitchell Rost contributed 58 tackles with three sacks and VanOverbeke had 55 tackles with a team-leading seven and a half sacks.
Sanow on defense forced a fumble, recovered two and intercepted two passes along with his 54 tackles.
Lipinski had 53 tackles, five for lost yards with six sacks. Beau Banish had 44 tackles and two and a half sacks and Logan Sussner had 39 tackles with six sacks.
Austin Sorenson added three and a half sacks.

When it came to returning kicks, LaShad Smith led the team with 13 returns for 272 yards. Sanow returned eight for 270 yards.
Minneota kicker Sebastino Beraldo made 30 of 35 extra point attempts; Smith had 11 of 19 and Rolbiecki two of five.
This year’s Vikings who added their names to the all-time Viking records lists included:
Rushing: Cole Sanow, individual rushing, 14th place at 1,442. Garrett Hennen is the leader with 2,070. And Snow is fourth in overall rushing leaders with 2,945 yards, a 7.6 average with 47 touchdowns. Brandon Anderson is the Viking career leader with 4,641 yards and 76 touchdowns.
Thomas Hennen is eighth on the single season pass reception list for his 833 yards in 2017. He he’s ninth overall with 1,294 yards on 73 receptions and 16 touchdowns in his career.
Cary Miller is the all-time leader with 2,026 yards in 1984 with 16 touchdowns.
Sanow also is ninth among scoring leaders with 166 points. Isaac Hennen topped the list with 238 points in one season in 2017 and is also second with 206 in 2016.
Sanow is all-time fourth among scoring leaders with 332 points on 54 touchdowns and four extra points while Isaac Hennen leads the list with 552 points  on 89 touchdowns and nine extra points.

DEFENSIVELY, Shawn Buysse climbed into the nine six spot for 178 tackles in 2017 and is 14th overall with 273. Tim DeVlaeminck leads the list with 579 career tackles.
Cole VanOverbeke is 14th overall in career sacks with 15. Daniel Harrison had 37.5 in his Viking career.
Thomas Hennen’s five interceptions puts him fourth overall. Dale Kockelman leads with 10. Overall, Hennen has nine for his career and Kockelman 18.
Foreign Exchange kicker Beraldo ranks 15h over all with his 30 kicks. Diego Meza-Palmer is the leader in one season with 69. Beraldo is 14th on the overall list. Meza-Palmer had 176 in his career.

IN ADDITION, Minneota Coach Chad was the Southwest Sub District Coach of the Year.
