Taylor Reiss, National Player of the Week.

Taylor Reiss National Player of the Week

Southwest Minnesota State senior outside hitter Taylor Reiss has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Week announced on Tuesday afternoon, for the second time this season.

It's the fifth time Reiss has earned the weekly national award in her career, making Reiss the first ever player to take home national player of the week honors five times. The award comes the same week Reiss was named NSIC Offensive Player of the week for her second consecutive week, third time this season, and her eighth recognition as a Mustang.

Reiss, a former Minneota Viking and a 2015 alumnus of Minneota High School, recorded 49 kills with 8.17 kills per set average in SMSU's sweeps over MSU Moorhead on Friday night and No. 1 Northern State on Saturday. Reiss recorded only three errors off 97 swings for a .474 hitting percentage. She recorded 20 kills against MSU Moorhead and 29 against top-ranked Northern. Reiss has a .327 season hitting percentage with 5.85 kills per set average this season and is only nine kills shy of achieving 2,000 career kills, the second player in all-time history to do so. Reiss enters weekend play with 1,991 kills after last weekends' performance.

Reiss is ranked second in kills (1,991) in the all-time career rankings. She is also second in kills per set (4.92), points (2,255.0), third in attack attempts (4846), third in points per set (5.57), seventh in attack percentage (.314), and seventh in service attempts (1,505).

She is the national leader in attacks per set (14.13), kills per set (5.85), points per set (6.53), total attacks (1,229), and total kills (509).
