Coach Greg Gile couldn’t hide the disappointment.
Clearly he hoped for a better opening golf performance from his defending 5A Section champs.
“I was hoping to get closer to 400 as a team score,” he said. But his golfers shot a 422 and were well off the pace of 338 set by Lac qui Parle Valley.
“We shot closer to that in practice a night earlier,” he said.
“I’m a little disappointed there. But it’s the first meet of the year and we’ll keep at it,” hesaid.
“Lac qui Parle had some terrific scores,” he said. The top three Eagles placed first, second and third with Rachel Halvorson winning the met with a 78.
The coach was pleased with the 107 shot by eighth grader Lauren Bowyer to tie her for second onthe team with Carolyn Hoffmann. “Really pleased with Lauren the way she moved up to shoot a varsity score,” he said.
The coach indicated, “Individually we have swing problems.” He indicated that will be on the agenda for practice this week.
Minneota senior Brooklynn Downing shot the best round for the Vikings with a 98.

BOYS AT LAKEVIEW INVITE: Fourth out of ten teams
The Minneota varsity boys scoring for the meet included: Nolan Boerboom 47-41-88; Trent Esping 45-45-90; Cole Myhre 46-47-93 and Tyler Myhre 47-50-97. Others were: Lucas Bot 53-45-98; and Mitchell Rost 49-51-100.
COACH'S REACTION: “It was great to see Trent Esping in the top team scores. Overall, the boys scores are much improved from last year. Last year on our home course we scored a 387. Today we had a 368,” he said.
