Rost’s 31 points power Vikings past Ortonville

Max Rost scored a career-high 31 points and was one of three Minneota players to finish with double-digit rebounds en route to a 69-59 victory over winless Ortonville Thursday night in Minneota.
If you fire up enough shots, some of them will eventually score points.
Minneota (7-14) overcame 25 missed three-pointers by grabbing twice as many rebounds as the Trojans (0-21). The Vikings' 34 offensive rebounds was six more than Ortonville's 28 total rebounds.
Rost made 12 of 20 shots from the field, including a pair of three-pointers, and 5 of 7 free throws. He also had 12 rebounds and four assists.
Sawyer DeSmet accounted for 14 points and a game-high 19 rebounds. Peyton Sheik also reached double figures in rebounds with 12, while also scoring eight points. Ryan Dalager added 11 points and five assists.
The Vikings jumped out to an 11-2 lead and expanded it to 24-10 when Tate Peterson scored from close range. But Ortonville fought back with an 18-7 to whittle the deficit to 31-28 with just over three minutes remaining in the first half.
The Vikings then scored the final nine points of the first half. Sheik turned a steal into a layup to start the run. DeSmet scored inside and also hit a free throw, and Rost scored on two drives to the hoop.
Ortonville never let the Vikings run away with the game as they hit seven triples and stayed within reach most of the way.
Dru Boots paced the Trojans with 19 points, while Carter Lee had 15 points off the bench and Hunter Merritt chipped in with 14.
