Reiss National Player of Week
Southwest Minnesota State senior outside hitter Taylor Reiss has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Week. It's the fourth time Reiss has earned the weekly national award in her career.
She is the first ever player to take home national player of the week honors four times. The award comes the same week Reiss was named NSIC Offensive Player of the week, her seventh recognition as a Mustang.
Reiss, of Taunton and a 2015 alumnus of Minneota High School, led the NSIC last week with 60 kills.
She averaged 6.67 kills per set, and hit .379 in the two matches against Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul.
In the Mustangs' 3-1 victory over Minnesota State and a five-set loss to Concordia-St. Paul, Reiss recorded her second and third consecutive double-double, her 11th this season.
She had 30 kills and 14 digs against Minnesota State and 30 kills and hit .391 and added 20 digs in the five-set loss at No. 2 Concordia on Saturday. This season, Reiss has recorded 316 kills, averaging 5.64 kills per set.
She has a team second-best 189 digs and leads the team with 339.5 points this season.
Reiss currently leads the nation in kills per set (5.64), points per set (6.06), and total kills (316). She is also the conference leader in attacks per set (14.20), and total attacks (795).
Reiss was named the NSIC Preseason Player of the year, she is the reigning two-time NSIC Offensive Player of the Year and last season's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Year. She was also named to the 2017 NSIC Volleyball All-Tournament team.
Reiss has moved into the top-five spot in all-time school rankings in five categories.
She currently is in second for kills with 1,798. The leader, Erin Contons, who graduated in 2007, leads with 2,494. Reiss is third in points per set with 5.42, second in points with 2026.5, and third in attack attempts, 4,412, second in kills per set with 4.81.
She also ranks eighth in attack percentage, recording a .308 career attack percentage.
Southwest Minnesota State (10-5, 5-2 NSIC) travels to Minnesota Crookston (3-12, 1-6 NSIC) on Friday for a 6 p.m. match and takes on Bemidji State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
