Morgan Kockelman directs her troops
Like a general directing the troops, Morgan Kockelman methodically moved her players around the floor, set the ball to them and watched miracles being performed.
Much like a quarterback steers his team, it's Kockelman's job to get the ball to the big swingers, to make her sets precise and to give her teammates a chance to succeed.
"Morgan knows the fundamentals. She finds all her hitters," said Coach Hayley Fruin.
Saturday night Kockelman did her job — covered the floor, gave her hitters, especially Lydia Sussner, a chance to knock off the giant of Section 3A, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
She did it so well, Minneota came home with a 3-2 win and spot in the upcoming Class A State Tournament.
For Kockelman, it all comes down to one fact. "We believe in ourselves," she said.
