Moorse lifts Mudhens' past Marshall

Grady Moorse made the first start on the mound in his Minneota Mudhens career last Wednesday a memorable one.

The left-hander tossed six innings and allowed only five hits and one unearned run before giving way to two relievers as the Mudhens defeated the Marshall A's 4-1 in Marshall.

Moorse walked none and struck out four to earn the win. Zach Nuy pitched two scoreless innings and gave up only one hit while walking one and striking out three. AJ Myhre pitched the ninth and allowed consecutive singles, one on a bad hop, to start the inning before striking out the next three hitters to preserve the win.

Moorse had made only two relief appearances for the Mudhens prior to making his first start against Marshall.

"We're down a little in pitching," said Mudhens player/manager Tyson Sonnenburg. "We gave Grady the start and he did a really good job for us."

Tate Walerius got things started for the Mudhens with a solo home run with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.

The Mudhens added three more runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Jake Leighton rapped a double and scored on a single by Austin DeVlaeminck. Austin Buysse then singled, followed by run-scoring singles by Sonnenburg and Danny Hennen.

Minneota had 10 hits, including two each from Leighton and Buysse.
