LQPV tops Vikings for Camden title, 54-41

Lac qui Parle Valley sank nine three-pointers en route to a 54-41 victory over Minneota in the Camden Conference championship Monday night in Minneota.
The teams were neck-and-neck in the first half which finished in a 24-24 deadlock.
Minneota took a 35-34 lead on a putback by Ireland Stassen and then a free throw by Grace Hennen with 11:02 remaining, which would be the last lead for the Vikings.
The Eagles slowly pulled away with Ayanna Gipson and Taylor Shelstad hitting consecutive treys to make it 40-35. Kenadi Arndt's inside basket cut the deficit to 40-37 with 7:27 left before the Eagles would go on a 10-0 run despite 6-1 senior Camryn Lee, a 1,000-point scorerm seated on the bench for over six minutes with foul trouble. Lee then fouled out on a charge with 4:47 left in the game. Without the inside presence of Lee, the Eagles delivered from outside the arc.
The Eagles' 2-3 zone stymied the Vikings, who were able to make only five field goals in the second half.
Isabel Gerdes, who led all scorers with 22 points, had four of the Eagles' triples. Taylor Shelstad added 15 points and Gipson had 10 points.
Arndt and Faith Myhre led the Vikings with 11 points apiece. Ireland Stassen finished with eight points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Minneota now enters sub-section tournament play, taking on Canby at 2:30 pm. Saturday in Montevideo.

Minneota shot only 24 percent from the field and were unable to withstand Mayer Lutheran's strong inside game.
Four players reached double-digit scoring for Mayer Lutheran. Danica Martin made 8 of 16 shots and led Mayer Lutheran (20-3) with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Claire Keaveny had 15 points and four steals, Madeline Guetzkow added 12 pints and 10 rebounds, and Isabelle Keaveny also had 12 points.
For Minneota (17-7) , Grace Hennen had 18 points and Ireland Stassen had 11.
Minneota, which never led in the game, trailed 29-19 at halftime.
Mayer Lutheran then went on an 8-0 run to start the second half as the Vikings didn't score their first points of the second half until 5:30 had elapsed when Megan Krog came off the bench and scored inside.
The Eagles then went on another 8-0 run with Martin scoring six of the points to put the game out of reach at 48-24 with 7:10 left.

Leading 25-23 at halftime, the Vikings (17-6) dominated the second half by outscoring the Jaguars 35-9 with a suffocating press. RCW committed 17 of its 24 turnovers in the second half.
Grace Hennen led the Vikings with 15 points, while Kenadi Arndt had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Ireland Stassen added 10 points, nine rebouinds, six assists and six steals. Megan Krog had seven points, while Dakoda Hennen and Kiersyn Hulzebos each drained a pair of three-pointers to account for all six of their points. Faith Myhre scored four points.
The Vikings shot well from the field, hitting 41 percent of their shots (26 for 63), and outrebounded the Jaguars (6-18) 34-19.
Rachel Jake led RCW with 11 points.

Arinn McGee had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Jadyn Kor had 21 points and four steals as the Arrows defeated the Vikings last Tuesday night in Pipestone.
Minneota (16-6) fought hard against the Arrows and eventually took a 30-29 lead in the second half, its lone lead of the game, before Pipestone caught fire and went on a 17-4 run to stretch its lead to 46-34.
Ireland Stassen notched 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings, who shot a season-best 47 percent from the field. Dakoda Hennen had 14 points, Grace Hennen 13 and Faith Myhre eight.
Pipestone (12-9) cashed 16 of 21 free throws, while Minneota made only 3 of 8. The Arrows also made nine triples.
