Jr. Vultures season ends

Minneota’s Jr. Vultures were sitting in a perfect position to come back through the loser’s bracket and get back into contention in the playoffs.
BOLD knocked of No. 1-ranked Sacred Heart, 4-3 and the Jr. Vultures were in control, leading Madison 4-1 after four innings.
Coach J.D. Pesch took out pitcher AJ Myhre, who had given up just one hit, struck out five and walked two.
After that it got ugly. The next three Minneota pitchers gave up seven walks, four stolen bases, five wild pitches, a balk and a strikeout was dropped to allow a runner on base.
Madison used all that and three base hits to scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings and took home a 9-6 that eliminated Minneota from the playoffs.
The collapse was softened a bit when Minneota scored two runs off Madison in the ninth and had the bases load. But Madison got a force out at second after a base hit by Myhre and a strikeout by lefty relief pitcher Blake Wollschlager to end the game.
Minneota’s woes were compounded by the fact they had just two hits until the seventh — when they got two more off Wollschlager. But despite three first-inning errors by Madison that helped the Junior Vultures score two runs, Madison played solid baseball behind starting pitcher Avery Wittnebel, who fanned eight batters.
Ben Skorczewski walked three times, was also safe on an error and scored three runs.
Otherwise, Minneota’s only hits were singles by Josh Schuelke, Myhre, Braeden Panka and Jackson Esping.
But Skorczewski, who was the third Minneota pitcher, took the loss in relief.
Minneota had defeated Madison twice during the regular season and Madison’s record is now 9-7.
