Highly-ranked Raymond suffocates Mudhens

Sometimes a little rain must fall when you need it the least.

No. 4 state-ranked Raymond, the 2016 State Class C Champ, collapsed the roof on Minneota and the rain poured in Wednesday night to the tune of 15-1.

"First one of these we've had this year," said Jesse Drager.

After scoring first on a base hit by Beau Buysse and single by Preston Nuy plus a Raymond error, Minneota led 1-0.

But starting pitcher Tommy Fischer was wil, gave up three hits and by the time he was relieved by Henry Pesch, trailed 8-1.

Pesch held Raymond off for three innings, but the dam broke again in the fifth, Raymond knocked off seven more runs on six hits and Bryce Gorder came on to put out the fire.

Minneota got just five hits, one each by Buysse, Jordan Beck, Nuy, Jake Leighton and Danny Hennen.

Now 11-9, the Minneota Mudhens are 6-4 in the Land O'Ducks League and a win at 2 p.m. Sunday in Appleton will put them into the final four for the playoffs and avoid the sub-region playoffs.
