Hennen can't miss — roll over The Sting

Thomas Hennen was hot as ... well, as a hot coal ... and he converted five of his first seven three-pointers enroute to 25 points and a 78-39 over Yellow Medicine East.

"He was hot," said Assistant coach Mike Hennen.

"Thomas was terrific, but what I like is we held the other team to 39 points," said Coach Dave Busselman.

"To hold a team to 39 points is good. And the style we play, up and down, gives the other team most shots at the basket, too."

From the start Minneota was off and running. The score was 30-11 before The Sting had a chance to get their stinger warmed up.

Hennen's three-pointers didn't hurt anything.

By the half Minneota held a 57-28 lead and there was NO doubt about the outcome.

With a "running clock" due to the large lead and the fact Busselman ran players in and out as fast as Santa Claus skips from rooftop to rooftop, the second half went quickly with Minneota outscoring YME, 21-11.

Besides Hennen, Minneota had his brother Jacob with 17 points and Logan Sussner with 18. Nolan Boerboom added seven, Alex Saltzer six, Jarod Josephson four and Grady Moorse 1.

Early in the game The Sting's Bennett Knapper matched Hennen three-pointer for three-pointer. He ended with five of 15 from that range and led YME with 17 points.

Minneota has a clean sweep Tuesday night. The B squad won, 40-30 and the C Squad won, 55-11. All three squads are undefeated on the year.

The Vikings next game is at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at home against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. Based on last year's great games with the Knights, this is expected to be a good test coming from the defending state champs.

"We have the rest of the week to work on things. That's a luxury other teams (like R-T-R) don't have," said Coach Busselman.
