Golf future looks bright after state performances
Minneota’s boys’ golf future looks bright after junior Nolan Boerboom finished in 18th place at the state golf meet last week — and freshman Cole Myhre posted notice he is likely the leader of this team after Boerboom is gone.
Boerboom making his third appearance in the state, shot a pair of 83s on two consecutive days for a 36-hole total of 166. It was good enough for 18th place — 11 strokes above par.
After shooting 42-41 the first day, Boerboom came back with an 39 and completed the state with a final 44. He had been in 21st place after Day 1, so he improved three notches with his play on Wednesday.
A year ago he finished 13th overall. Myhre finished Day 1 on Tuesday in 78th. He was a bit awe-struck, shooting a pair of 51s on the first day.
But the second day he settled down and hit a 48, then finished with a 46.
His total was 196 and he improved to 64th place overall in the state, 22 strokes above par. The leader after the first day was Brett Reid of Community Christian School. He shot an even par over the first 18 holes.
Boerboom was a plus 11 and Myhre a plus 30 after the first day of golfing at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.
Springfield had the team lead after the first day with a total of 323 after 18 holes. Community Christian was in second at 328 with Fertile-Beltrami in third at 337 and Lac qui Parle Valley at 345.
