The team victory went to Canby-Minneota Thursday at the Section 3A NW Sub-Section meet.
But more importantly, the team advanced most of their runners to the Section 3A meet at 4 p.m., Thursday May 30 at Luverne.
From there, top two winners in each category advance to the state meet.
The Canby-Minneota squad won the eight-team meet by seven points over second place Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd.
Among the winners for the C-M squad was Minneota Valedictorian Lizzy Gillingham. The recently named top graduate at Minneota won the 100-meter dash in :13.34. Gillingham also helped her 4x200-meter relay squad win the title in 1:51.72, which shattered their “seed” time coming into the meet. Others were RyAnn Hansen, Makenzie Hemish and Braelyn Merritt. She also was the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay that also won the title in 4:12.79, again faster than their previous time.
And Gillingham long jumped to second place behind her teammate RyAnn Hansen, who went 16-1 3/4 with Gillingham at 15-10 1/2.
So in her four events, Gillingham took three firsts and a second.
Also on pace for Canby/Minneota was Grace Drietz. She won both the 800-meter run in 2:26.02 and the 1600-meter run in 5:10.27.
In addition, Drietz got a first with the 4x400-meter relay team.
On the hurdles, Kameron King is ... well, the King for Canby-Minneota. Her 100-meter hurdle time of :17.73 was a winner and she came in second to Avery Koenen of Montevideo just 1.1 seconds behind.
Also adding her name to the top of the list of C-M finishers is Canby freshman RyAnn Hansen. Her 400-meter dash time of 1:09.97 was a winner, she captured the long jump and anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay team. She started off the winning 4x200-meter relay squad as well to register four wins on the day for her C-M squad.
Minneota’s Isabelle Hennen placed third and Canby’s Delaney Houseman fourth in the 200-meter dash and Hennen qualified for the sectionst in the 100-meter dash witha fifth place finish.
Maya Wente was for in the triple jump. Hannah Jelen took a fourth in the discus.
Added to the list to compete at Luverne were several C-M performers who didn’t initally qualify. They included Maya Wente and Aidyn Bruns in the high jump, Delaney Houseman and Elysa Wollum in the pole vault and Mackenzie Janiszeski in the discus.
