Family first for Minneota activities planner

Former Minneota athlete, current offensive coordinator for the football team and Minneota Activities Director and grounds supervior Matt Myrvik is leaving his position with the school.
Last week he stepped down as Activities Director and grounds supervisor but will stay on as an assistant coach for the football team.
​“I’m choosing to step down for personal reasons,” Myrvik said.
He added, “Our children are young, and the demands of the position left me with little time to spend with my family.”
Myrvik told the Minneota School Board in a letter he was thankful for the rewarding experience and later told The Mascot, “These are moments you only get once, and I do not want to miss out on those moments,” regarding time with his family.
 “This has been a difficult decision, and one our family has been weighing for quite a while. It is simply what is best for our children,” he said.
Myrvik was Minneota Schools first full-time “Activities Director/Grounds Supervisor.”
The position was created after demand for the expansion of the Athletic Directors position became apparent.
In the past the Athletic Director’s job was part of Elementary Principal Harlen Ulrich’s duties. When the elementary principal job was eliminated, Jason Myhre was hired as a part-time Athletic Director.
Myhre took a full-time athletic director’s job Tri-City United in Montgomery, MN.
That’s when Myrvik came into the picture on a part-time basis in a position that eventually evolved to the full-time Activities Director/Ground Supervisor position.
“I want to thank the Minneota School Board and the Administration for the opportunity to serve as the Activities Director of Minneota High School for the last two years,” Myrvik said.
  “It has been a rewarding experience, and I greatly appreciate having the opportunity to be a part of something so special,” he added. 
Myrvik said, “The relationships Ive developed with the student athletes, coaches, and parents that made doing this job rewarding.” 
He issued a special THANK YOU to Justin Knutson at 4.0 bus services, Tami Tolk, Keven Larson, Wade Gillund, the custodial staff, and all the office personnel.  “I could not have done this job without your help."
 “I want to express my appreciation for being able to work with such outstanding athletes, students, coaches, teachers, administration and parents.” 
Myrvik concludedf, “I look forward to watching these programs continue to flourish and to be an example to everyone else, what it means to be a student athlete on and off the field or court.”
Superintendent Dan Deitte and Principal Jeremy Frie have already reviewed applicants, set up the interview process and hope to have a replace to be approved at the next board meeting.
