Tyson Sonnenburg had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Alex Pohlen also had three hits as the depleted and injury-riddled Minneota Mudhens drubbed the Madison Mallards 7-2 on Friday night in Madison.

Danny Hennen continues to be the Mudhens' workhorse on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings for the win. He allowed just three hits and two runs, both unearned, while walking none and striking out four.

Zach Nuy relieved with runners on second and third and one out in the seventh and struck out the next two hitters to escape unscathed. Nuy then tossed the final two innings for the save. He gave up one hit and one walk, while striking out seven in 2 2/3 innings.

The Mudhens were shorthanded to begin the game with leadoff hitter Jake Leighton and third baseman and No. 3 hitter Austin Buysse both missing the game.

Alex Pohlen was nursing a sore hamstring and was unable to play second base. He was used as the designated hitter with Peyton Gilliund taking over at second. AJ Myhre took Buysse's spot at the hot corner and Preston Nuy replaced Leighton at shortstop.

To further complicate matters, Myhre sprained his shoulder while stealing second base and had to be taken out of the game. Catcher Austin DeVlaeminck was hit by a foul ball and also had to come out of the game.
