Depleted Minneota falls to Luverne

A depleted Minneota Senior Legion team managed only five hits off Luverne's Ethen Beyer and fell 3-1 on Thursday night at K.P. Kompelien Field in Minneota.
The loss spoiled a strong outing by Minneota starting pitcher Thor Fischer, who gave up six hits, while walking two and striking out seven.
Minneota was missing several players who are on a group mission trip.
Minneota led 1-0, scoring its lone run in the fourth inning. Cooper VanOverbeke, who went 2-for-3, singled to lead off the inning. Josh Schuelke then followed with a single. Luverne then turned a double play, with VanOverbeke advancing to third. Fischer then singled to score VanOverbeke. Keaton Jurrens followed with a single to continue the threat, but Beyer escaped further damage with a strikeout.
Fischer held Luverne scoreless until the sixth inning when they plated two runs on two hits, a hit batsmen, a walk and an error. They added a solo run in the top of the seventh on a hit batsmen, a groundout, and a single by Beyer, who had three of Luverne's six hits.
