Boys, girls second at Slayton

On Tuesday at Slayton, both the Canby-Minneota Cross Country teams played second fiddle at the 12-team Rebel Invite.

The girls lost to Luverne, 30-69 but placed second. And the boys found themselves second as Worthington’s 23 topped the field. Canby-Minneota boys came in second with 58. For the boys, Anthony Wollum put on a late burst from fourth place and landed in third in a time of 18:28.

“I was pretty disappointed in MCC’s decision to disqualify our second runner and Luverne’s third runner in the girls varsity race,” said Coach Beth Jessen.

“McKenzie (Ruether) followed Luverne’s runner off course right where course marshals were busy on their phones taking pictures as they hit each other with sticks!

The MCC coach said it was the girls’ fault because they should have known the course better.”

The disqualifications had no effect on the team results, Ruether and the Luverne runner would have placed six and seven.

Grace Drietz and Ruether continue to have very solid consistent performances.

Kameron King was the standout for the girls who has finished as our third runner in the last two races now.

Faith Traen and Kalli Jelen, “Did a great job keeping Kameron in their sight,” said the coach.

Alexander Full really stood out for the boys and had his best race of the season, the boys did a great job running as a pack again after a disappointing Milaca showing.

They only lost to Worthington which is a Class AA school.
