Wente sixth at state in high hurdles
A year ago, Carter Wente of Canby/Minneota's track team got his steps wrong and didn't qualify for the state 110-meter high hurdles.
But now, his senior year, he got it right and Saturday finished in sixth place and on the podium to cap his senior year.
Wente ran a :15.12 in the the prelims to take fifth. Jack Haussner of Cook County crossed the finish line in first place at :15.43.
In the finals, it was Jayson Ekijor of Providence Academy setting the pace in :14.96 to claim the championship.
Wente came in sixth at :15.82 and finally got a medal at the state meet.
WENTE HAD another opportunity with the 4x200-meter relay team.
But the team of Cole VanOverbeke, Jaden Kindropp, Jared Josephson and Wente finished in 1:32.56.
It wasn't good enough to qualify for the finals in 11 place. The top nine times qualify for the finals and didn't get to run in the finals on Saturday.
