Golf Academy set for future Viking golfers

The annual Viking Golf Academy will be held May 24, 25, 28, 29 and 31 as well as June 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Grades two to four will golf at 9 to 10 a.m. and Grades five-eight golf from 10-11:15 a.m. There is a cost per family.

Candidates of the Golf Academy will golf free during the upcoming summer months. However, graduates should avoid League Golf, Tournaments and Club Events. Parents frequently participate in the golf instructions along with their child.

This is no cost for the parents.

The Academy curriculum includes:

•Safety Issues, on the driving and chipping range, putting greens, and weather related concerns.

•Golf rules.

•Golf etiquette.

•Developing the proper grip.

•Chipping and putting fundamentals.

•Golf swing development. Awards will be presented to the top five in each grade during the putting, chipping and driving competition and rules test. Minneota will attempt to host several junior events.

Tournament information will be available at the Academy. “We have golf clubs available,” said Academy Director Greg Giles.

Individual summer lessons will be provided free for those interested in preparing for their future varsity competition.

Instructors include Nicole Evers, Brooklynn Downing, Nolan Boerboom and Gile. All are members of the Minneota varsity golf teams.
