County board increases all liquor license fees

The county board held a public hearing regarding the proposed revisions to county liquor license fees. There were no comments at the public hearing and the board voted to approve the proposed fees.

The county liquor license fees have remained the same since 2005. Because of the timing of license renewals for 2018, the new rates won’t take effect until 2019. “We are not trying to gouge anyone, we’re trying to bring our fees up to standards,” said County Auditor/Treasurer E. J. Moberg.

“What I propose is to approve these fees,” said Moberg — and which the county board did.

They are:

3.2% Off-Sale liquor license

$15 current fee, $50 new fee

3.2% On-Sale liquor license

$40 current fee, $50 new fee

On-Sale Wine License

$50 current fee,  $100 new fee

On-Sale Liquor License

$300 current fee, $700 new fee

Sunday Liquor License

$75 current fee, $150 new fee

Temporary Liquor License

$30 current fee,  $30 new fee

Notices were sent to all those affected by the license fees.

IN OTHER action the board:

•Approved the request by United Community Action Partnership to continue to provide emergency shelter services in Lyon County in the form of motel vouchers and services to those who are homeless. The county board does not have a financial interest in this organization.

•Approved a new software contract for the Assessor’s Department. “When I took over, the system was outdated and we need to update it,” said Assessor Karen Kitchenmaster. The board approved a contract with Schneider Corporation of Indianapolis, IN for $10,100 this year and $5,844 the next two years.
