Minneota line, 'grew up today,' said Coach Myrvik

While Minneota totaled 411 yards on offense Friday against BOLD, it wasn't just the passers, runners and receivers who made it happen.

It was an offensive and defensive line that made it happen.

"They grew up tonight," said Minneota Offensive Coordinator Matt Myrvik.

"We got our noses into plays, we didn't have penalties and we just stuck together," said Shawn Buysse, the junior linebacker and offensive lineman that became the leader of the defensive unti. He collected five tackles and said, "Mitchell Rost has played great and we've learned to play together." Rost had three tackles.

"We rely on each other and just work together," Rost said.

Senior lineman T.J. Esping added, "We all just played our hearts out and we pulled it out."

Besides Esping, the only returning lineman was senior center Ty Lipinski. He held up his end of the bargain with great blocking at center — but added an extra perspective when he went to linebacker on defense and Friday had four tackles — for for lost yards.

Another factor was Landon Abraham, who was a versatile defensive player who also led the special teams in tackles on kickoffs. Friday he stuck his nose into the fray for four tackles.

Cole VanOverbeke not only was a key blocker on the offense but defensively added six tackles — one for lost yards.

"The line was resilent. I couldn't be prouder of them," said Myrvik.

"We put our defense in tough spots and most kids were playing both ways. They played great defense. We asked alot of our kids and they responded," Myrvik said.

When the dust cleared, BOLD had just 182 yards of total offense.

No doubt, somebody did the job on a team that rolled through the season with a 10-0 record — that is, until they met the Minneota Vikings.
