Girls edged by LqPV in Camden Conference meet

Never had Canby-Minneota (C-M) been able to beat Lac qui Parle Valley for the Camden Conference Championship. So on Monday, they thought they had a chance.
But despite a first place finish by Grace Drietz, C-M fell four points short, losing 27-31.
It also was a gage for the upcoming Section 3A meet. “Four points is not a big cushion for Lac qui Parle Valley,” said C-M Coach Beth Jessen.
While McKenzie Ruether came in fourth, Faith Traen sixth and Kalli Jelen ninth, what hurt C-M was Kameron King falling off to 15th pace. Mackenzie Hemish finished 11th.
“With Kameron not having her regular type of race, the girls have a great chance of a state berth. If Kameron runs where she regularly has, we win,” said the coach.
Drietz, Traen, Ruether and Jelen all earned all-conference honors.
But despite a good run, Canby-Minneota will have to wait for another time to beat LqPV. Maybe that will come in the

section finals. A berth in the state meet hangs in the balance.

THE BOYS were way behind Lac qui Parle Valley in second — 21-58 as all seven Eagle runners finished in the top 10. Keiser Freetly of LqPV won the race in 16:24.
Canby-Minneota’s Anthony Wollum took fourth with Zach Hansen, Alexander Full, Jalyn Ufkin and Jared Josephson finishing out the top five C-M runners.
Earning all-conference honors for the boys was Anthony Wollum.
