BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Canby/Minneota competed against big-school competition in the Willmar Cross-country Invitational on Saturday at Eagle Creek Golf Course, with the girls finishing sixth out of nine teams and the boys finishing seventh out of eight teams.
"We got to see some tough competition on a tough course," said Canby/Minneota coach Allyson Pesek. "Another great meet leading us into October. So much more fun to come."
Perham won the boys' race with 42 points, while Luverne was second with 68 and Hopkins third with 99.
Bjorn Anderson of Perham was the boys' individual winner in a time of 16:20.8.
Zach Ourada led the Canby/Minneota point scorers, finishing 13th in 18:23.6 Blake Giese also finished in the top 20, crossing in 18th place in 18:32.8. Kolton Duis finished 26th, Tallen Merritt 41st and Jack Abrahamson 49th.
On the girls' side, Marshall came in first with 45 points, St. Cloud Cathedral second with 63, and Willmar third with 95.
Lauren Eilers of Willmar placed first individually in a time of 19:29.8.
Braelyn Merritt led the Canby/Minneota contingent, placing 11th in 20:53.7. Claire Stoks finished 21st, Mya Pesek 25th, Jordyn Jostock 43rd, and Taylor Ourada 55th.

Canby/Minneota swept both the boys' and girls' races in the 10-team cross country meet hosted by Yellow Medicine East on Thursday in Granite Falls.
All five of the point scorers for the C/M girls finished in the top 10, including Braelyn Merritt in first place, Claire Stoks in second and Mya Pesek in third. Ava Danielson finished in seventh place and Jordyn Jostock was eighth.
Canby/Minneota's victory with 19 points was well ahead of runner-up Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd with 55. Central Minnesota Christian School was third with 83 points.
Zach Ourada of Canby/Minneota won the boys' race among 73 competitors. He was followed by Kolton Duis in fourth, Blake Giese in fifth, Tallen Merritt in ninth, and Jack Abrahamson in 13th.
The C/M boys finished with 30 points, also well ahead of runner-up Montevideo with 64 and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd with 72.
