Carnival Dance to benefit Ghent band to be held soon
A carnival dance will be given for the benefit of the Ghent band on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Ghent Hall. The public patronage is solicited and a good time is assured. Join the march to the carnival.
Schliesman, students give entertaining recital in Taunton
A recital was given by Miss Schliesman and her pupils on Sept. 13 to the people of Taunton. The program consisted of piano and violin solos, duets, and several very well-rendered choruses. Mr. Pierce also performed a vocal solo. Much credit is due Miss Schliesman and her class for this especially fine entertainment.
Peckles' son visits town where father was butcher
Will Peckles of Virginia, Minn., accompanied by his son and daughter, camped in Minneota Wednesday night. Peckles' father, Pete Peckles, was a butcher in Minneota in the early days. Will said it had been 36 years ago that the family left Minneota and he was seven years old at that time. All Will could find in the line of family relics was his grandmother's house.

Firemen called to DeSutter residence for fire in a tree
An alarm on Friday sent the Minneota Fire Department to the residence of Mrs. A.E. DeSutter. When the firemen arrived, they discovered that a fire had been started in a tree in the DeSutter yard by several neighborhood children. The fire was immediately extinguished.
Bicycles to be scotch-lighted at Dero Chevrolet Company
Bicycles will be scotch-lighted at 7 p.m. Monday at the Dero Chevrolet Company garage. Anyone owning a bicycle is urged to bring it to the Dero garage that night. This scotch-lite tape, which glows in the dark, will be placed on the bicycle in such a way that it will readily be seen by motorists who travel the streets and highways at night. Before the scotch-light material is applied to the bicycle, the owner must make sure that the handle bars, the front forks, and the rear fender are clean and dry.
Minneotan appears in court after leaving scene of accident
A Minneota man, Clarence Bernardy, appeared in municipal court in Canby last Thursday afternoon on a traffic violation. Bernardy was charged with leaving the scene of an accident following an accident on First Street on Sunday evening, which involved four automobiles and caused minor injuries to one person. Mrs. Lawrence Kelly received abrasions on her body and a cut on her hand when she was thrown from the car she was driving as it was struck by the car driven by Bernardy, who was driving west on Front Street and attempted to pass the car driven by Mrs. Kelly. Bernardy’s car sideswiped Mrs. Kelly’s vehicle, pushing it into two parked cars. As the car was struck, the door flew open and Mrs. Kelly was thrown out. Bernardy did not stop and drove out of town.
Local societies sponsoring clothing drive for World Relief
The Westerheim and S. Paul's Ladies' Aids, and the YLU of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, will sponsor a clothing drive for Lutheran World Relief. The clothes may be brought to St. Paul's Church until Sept. 30. Winter and children's clothes are especially needed.

No injuries in two-car accident along Highway 68
A two-car collision occurred on Highway 68 at 8:50 p.m. just east of Minneota, near the approach to Jim's Drive-In. Involved in the accident were Donald Korman, a Minneota youth, and Theodore Parker of rural Cokato. There were no injuries resulting from the collision. The Korman vehicle was a total loss. Damage to the Parker car was $500.
Minneota Businessmen's Assn. to back United Fund Drive
In its monthly meeting, called to order by President Wynston Boe, the Minneota Businessmen's Association (MBA) passed a motion to back the United Fund Drive for Minneota. Vi Gislason, a member of the organization, gave a report on the subject. It was noted that such a drive would do away with the envelope-passing sort of drives which have been used in the community in the past. The United Fund Drive would give the individual contributor the choice of which charities he/she wants to back.
Adrian defeats Minneota in home opener, 32-20
Adrian scored twice in the final two minutes of the third quarter and went on to defeat the Minneota Vikings 32-20 Friday night in Minneota. The Vikings took the lead in the first quarter after Steve Buysse recovered a fumble deep in Adrian territory and Olafson scored on a five-yard run off right tackle. Brian Boe then threw a seven-yard TD pass to Jim Engels and tied the game 12-12. The Vikings' final score came in the fourth quarter on a 26-yard TD pass from Boe to Ken Noyes.

Jessica Myrvik wins Minneota Mascot 'Boxelder Bug' contest
Jessica Myrvik won the Minneota Mascot Boxelder Bug Days contest. The contest was to determine the number of boxelder bugs pictured in the newspaper from June 3 to Sept. 2. The actual number was 538. Myrvik guessed 531. Another close guess was sent in by Marlene and Sandy Josephson, who had 529. In all, 20 people participated in the contest. For her guess, Myrvik receives a one-year subscription to the Mascot.
Rotary invites public to 'Whopper Feed' before Friday football game
The Minneota Rotary Club invites everyone to a "Whopper Feed" Friday evening prior to the Minneota football game against Dawson-Boyd. The "Whopper Feed" begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. All proceeds raised that evening are ear-marked for the Rotary scholarship fund.
Dalager, Bottelberghe named Homecoming Queen, King
Carrie Dalager and Matt Bottelberghe were crowned Minneota Homecoming Queen and King, respectively, on Monday to kickoff Homecoming Week. The Prince and Princess are Alyssa Downing and Justin Boerboom. Dalager is the daughter of Charles and Linda Dalager.. Bottelberghe is the son of Harold and Julie Bottelberghe. Downing is the daughter of Fran and Val Downing. Boerboom is the son of Scott and Terry Boerboom.
