Time to ‘Light up the city’

The City of Minneota is about to get a lot brighter — at no cost. “Ottertail Power is going to replace all the street lights in Minneota with LED lights and the company says it will be much brighter,” said City Administrator Shirley Teigland.

“The lights are property of Ottertail Power so there is no cost to the city for the lights being replaced.” Monthly cost to the city will increase $22.

IN OTHER action the board: •Received a letter from Mayor John Rolbiecki recognizing the, “Exceptional performance of the snow plowing team. Scott Holien, Jeff Yeo, Tim DeVlaeminck and part-time drivers have done a wonderful job in quickly and efficiently keeping our streets open,” he said.

“They have faced multiple back-to-back storms as they continue to keep the streets open from curb-to-curb and to ensure the snow piles are picked up and removed every single day.”

•Noted the City of Minneota has the authorization to use a program with the State of Minnesota called, “Revenue Recapture.” The program is for collections. The City also received notice of an audit which was completed on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Both City Administrator Shirley Teigland and Clerk Alexis Rameriz are required to complete annual training by February 28.

•Approved a rate increase of 2.77 percent for the Township Section Fire rates. The 2018 rate was $187.80 per section and will now be $193 per section.

•Approved employee training for Scott Holien for a Shade Tree Short Course and Tim DeVlaeminck for the annual water and wastewater conference.

•Accepted a donation of $1,000 from the Swede Home Cemetery Association to help purchase flags for Veterans Park Flags. The association is disbanding and wanted to use excess funds for this purpose.

•Approved the first half budget for the Senior Citizen Center at $7,500.

•Spent a total of 13 minutes in session — then the meeting was adjourned.
