Spanish teacher to be in music video

Minneota Spanish Teacher Miranda Gravley is going to Chicago this coming weekend to be in a Señor Wooly video.

“If you are a parent who has had a child in my Spanish class, you more than likely have heard them singing or maybe they even showed you a catchy, corny “Señor Wooly video,” said Gravley.

James Woolridge, aka Señor Wooly, is a Spanish teacher who lives near Chicago. He has been making videos for Spanish learners for quite a few years.

“Our school district pays a membership fee to have access to his videos — which includes puzzles, readings, worksheet and activities called ‘Nuggets.’ The kids love the videos,” the Minneota teacher said.

James Woolridge is definitely a celebrity in the world of Spanish Teachers.

“So, as I subscribe to his website, he sends out a newsletter. The November letter asked if any Spanish teachers were interested in being part of the next video he was filming. I responded. I received a follow up email asking some questions and for a photo and a few other things. Then, I received an invite,” Gravley said.

She will be departing from Minneapolis at 5:25 Friday afternoon. There is a meet and greet with the infamous Señor Wooly from 7-9 p.m.

“We are filming four scenes. I’m sworn to secrecy but I have been instructed to bring four different and specific ‘costumes’ or wardrobes.”

The four scenes are: One Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday noon, and Sunday evening.

“I will be flying back Monday morning. I’m super excited about this opportunity.”

“It is going to cost me a lot of money with flight, hotel, and food, but that's a sacrifice I would make for my classroom,” she said.

What she likes about the whole adventure is that, “It’s hands on curriculum that my students will LOVE. And the school has allowed me six hours of professional time instead all personal days.”

Gravley added, “My students don't believe that I will be an extra in a Señor Wooly video. I don't believe it either — Mr. Wooly did disclaim that he cannot guarantee everyone will be in the video in the final cuts. But he normally gets everyone in!”
