Public input asked on interchanges

The public has a chance for input into highway projects of interest to Lyon County residents.
These projects include installing an interchange at Hwy 23/19 intersection in Marshall, installing a second interchange at Hwy 23/59 in Marshall, three additional passing lanes on Hwy 23 between Pipestone and Willmar, and a concrete resurface project between Russell and Pipestone.
The two Marshall projects are by-passes that would be constructed on Highway 23 at the 19 and 59 intersections.
Last week, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners gave its support of these projects.
County Administrator Loren Stomberg said, “The commissioners are interested in your opinion on these proposals.”
As a result, the board will take comments from the public regarding these proposals at 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 3.
In 2013, the Minnesota Legislature created the Corridors of Commerce program for the purpose of constructing, reconstructing and improving state highways with projects that are not currently in Mn DOT’s improvement program.
The goals of the Corridors of Commerce program are to provide additional highway capacity on segments that are currently bottlenecked and to improve the movement of freight along our state highways.
Projects are ranked on several criteria including improved safety and community consensus.
For the 2018 program cycle, MnDOT has selected $400 million of projects for the next round of the Corridors of Commerce program.
If you cannot attend the April 3 meeting, you may send your comments to Lyon County Board Chair, 607 West Main St., Marshall, MN 56258, or email to: lorenstomberg@co.lyon.mn.us
