Myrvik named AD at Minneota

Being from a family of sports enthusiasts, it made sense for Patty Myrvik to accept the position of Activities Director at Minneota High School for the upcoming school year.
"With three kids in sports and Matt (her husband) coaching two sports, we're at sports events all the time anyway," Patty noted.
Myrvik grew up in Blomkest and attended Willmar High School where she was an All-State fastpitch pitcher while also playing volleyball and basketball. Her father, Dick, was a national champion fastpitch hurler.
After graduating from Willmar High School in 1994, she attended Southwest Minnesota State University where she excelled in softball. She majored in Sports Medicine and then became a student athletic trainer at SMSU in the fall of 1997 before becoming a full-time athletic trainer there for football, wrestling, softball, swimming and golf.
She stepped away from that position last August to become a full-time mother for her three children, Owen, 12; Taryn, 10; and Jacob, 8.
"Because Matt was gone all the time coaching and I was always gone traveling with the college sports team, we had a nanny for several years, Nicole Evers. But she is getting married and moving to Sioux Falls. So, that was another reason why I decided to be at home more."When Cari Pohlen announced her resignation from the Activities Director position here, Patty was approached by a school board member inquiring about her interest in the job.
"I talked it over with Matt and we thought it would be a good fit since being around sports brings joy to my world," Patty said.
Matt is the head wrestling coach and assistant football coach at Minneota. He is also employed with Borch's Sporting Goods in Marshall. Matt was also the Minneota Activities Director for two years several years ago.
"We went over both the good and the bad," Patty said about the AD position.
Patty will officially begin her AD duties in mid-July. First, she will work with Pohlen to get acclimated to the job before she meets with newly-hired high school principal Heather Anderson to go over policies and procedures.
"I have a ton of questions," said Patty with a laugh. "I am excited and I am also nervous. I want the transition to be as smooth as possible."
Patty said she is fortunate that Minneota is such a supportive community.
"We have good coaches and staff," she said. "And everyone is so supportive of sports and other things going on here. We have so many people that want to give back. One of these things is helping with the youth programs, which is so important and is really where everything starts."
