MINNEOTA PUBLIC LIBRARY

Summer Reading Program going strong

The Summer Reading Program is going strong, with many participants turning in their reading logs and gaining chances for the drawing — we at the Minneota Library have been kept busy. Kids: have you turned in a reading log yet? Turn in as many as you can before the deadline of Aug. 11, 2023. Drawing for Prizes will be Saturday, Aug. 19, in the library at 11 a.m.
Less than a month away: The Mobile Sign Shop, sponsored by the Minneota Library and provided through the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, will be at Riverside Park from 2-5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18. It is an activity for the whole family. Grandparents, parents, children, or anyone who comes can design and paint their own “cabin” sign. The Mobile Sign Shops have modeled their signs after the typical signs we see “at the lake” but they can reflect any part of your life. Favorite Flower? Draw it on a sign, along with your name, and the artists will carve it onto a piece of wood with a router. What sport do you play? Feature that on your sign! Put your dog’s name on a sign to put on his dog house. Endless possibilities! Bottled water and ice cream treats will be provided. Watch for ads in the Mascot and signs around town.
We usually do a reading challenge for adults in the winter, but there’s no rule that says we can’t do more than one! We will offer a reading challenge starting Sept. 1 and ending on Thanksgiving. It will feature nine categories for books, participants to read one in each category. Stop by the Library beginning Sept. 1 to sign up for the challenge.
All 26 libraries in the Plum Creek Library System are continually improving their services to the public. We keep up with ordering the latest books and provide ebooks and audio books through Libby and (in Lyon County), Hoopla, which also provides ebooks, audio books, and movies. All these services are free if you have a library card. All 26 libraries’ books are available to anyone in the Plum Creek Region who has a library card, so if Minneota’s library doesn’t own a book you want, you can find a library that does and put a “hold” on that book. It will arrive on the Plum Creek delivery truck, which delivers twice a week.
For more information on how to use these services, stop by the library. If you have a computer and internet at home, you can create a library account and search for books online. We can help you create your account.
