Minneota among several communities in District 15A receiving state grants

Rep. Chris Swedzinski (R-Ghent), recently announced that six cities in District 15A that he represents are receiving nearly $4.5 million combined for economic development projects such as property rehabilitation and upgrading public facilities.
Clarkfield ($600,000), Granite Falls ($943,000), Madison ($599,610), Minneota ($599,265), Tracy ($1.127) and Wood Lake ($600,000) are among 36 entities across Greater Minnesota to receive shares of $24 million recently awarded through the state’s Small Cities Development Program grants. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development administers the grants, which are part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program.
“I commend our local community leaders for taking the initiative to apply for these grants and congratulate them for their success in landing funding for improvements in our area,” Swedzinski said. “I look forward to seeing the positive results and economic growth these projects bring locally. Congratulations again to everyone involved in successfully applying for these grants.”
DEED indicates SCDP projects must benefit people of low and moderate incomes, eliminate slum and blight conditions, or address an urgent community need to eliminate a public health or safety threat. Grants are awarded to Minnesota cities with fewer than 50,000 residents and townships and counties with populations under 200,000.
