Everson purchases Krohling restaurant
George Everson, who has owned and operated the Pacific Hotel here for many years, as purchased the restaurant business formerly conducted by Rex Krohling and is now in charge of that.

Officers elected for Myota Eastern Star
The following officers were elected by the Myota Chapter of the Eastern Star last Tuesday evening: Worthy Matron, Mrs. W.B. Gislason; Worthy Patron, Henry Burdorf; Associate Matron, Mrs. S.B. Erickson; Conductress, Mrs. John Richards; Secretary, Priscilla Geiwitz; Treasurer, P.S. Jokull.

Santa to give treats Saturday afternoon
Members of the Minneota Businessmen's Association have plans all set for the big Christmas party on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by a visit by Santa Claus. According to the committee's plans, Santa Claus is to appear on the scene around 2:30 p.m. and will pass out treats and presents. There will be two showings of the movie "The Courage of Lassie" at the Joy Theatre, the first at 1 p.m. and the second at 3 p.m. Stores will also be open on the evenings of Dec. 22 and 23 to accommodate late Christmas shopping.
November was cold,
but it made good ice
A great many people in this community grumbled about the cold weather last month, but there was one Minneotan who was mighty pleased with it. That person was Honore Locy, who completed his ice harvest last Saturday. Locy said that November's weather made the best ice in years and also aided him in finishing cutting ice earlier than any other winter since he went into the ice business more than 30 years ago. The ice, Locy said, was 17 inches thick and very clear.

Minneota youths attack Clarkfield theatre mgr.
Young men from Minneota attacked the manager of the Clarkfield theatre and later were arrested and paid fines, according to an article in the Clarkfield Advocate, which read: "Several Minneota youths were arrested by local authorities Sunday night for rowdyism at the local movie theatre, and for physical assault on its manager, Lester Sorenson. The youths appeared in justice court here on Monday, and were collectively fined about $100 and costs by Justice Howard Otterholt. The young men were causing a disturbance at the show house when Mr. Sorenson ordered them to leave. At the entrance, one of them turned on Mr. Sorenson, striking him in the face with such violence as to fracture his nose.

Cream Station to be discontinued here
Swift and Company will discontinue operation of a cream station here on Saturday. According to Leon Krohling, who has been managing the station, he will operate a truck route in the area, picking up eggs, cream and poultry.

Minneota woman is Pillsbury Bakeoff finalist
Mrs. John Finnegan of Minneota was informed on Monday by a representative of the Pillsbury Company that she has been selected as one of the finalists for the firm's "Bakeoff" contest. The national contest is to be held in California at the end of February.

Youth injures throat in basketball practice
Douglas Peterson, the 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Peterson of rural Minneota, suffered an injury to his throat while at basketball practice at the public school here Monday afternoon. The boy was taken by local ambulance to the hospital in Ivanhoe after the incident and then transferred to the hospital in Sioux Falls. It was reported that he was taken out of intensive care in the Sioux Falls hospital on Tuesday morning.

Pearson home badly damaged by fire here
A fire of undetermined origin badly damaged the Gail Pearson family home eight miles northeast of Minneota last Thursday. The farm is owned and operated by Howard Van Moorlehem. The fire at the three-bedroom frame structure was fought by the Minneota Fire Department and said to be uninhabitable. No member of the Pearson family was home at the time of the fire. The Pearsons are now living with relatives in the Clarkfield area. The Minneota Fire Department was also called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Jensen in North Jefferson Street for an oil burner explosion. No damage was done to the home, although the interior was badly sooted.

Elementary students to hear motivated talk
The students in grades K-6 at the public school have a rare opportunity before them on Dec. 18, when a motivational speaker will present a program for them at 2 p.m. The presenter, Clint Lewis, calls his talk "A Whole New Way to See the Light". Mr. Lewis' story points to a life filled with stepping stones. His passion is singing and playing the guitar. What makes him unique is that he is blind and is only able to distinguish between light and dark.

Temperatures still above normal here
Temperatures that dipped to 4 degrees on Thursday night reached a daytime high of 46 degrees both Sunday and Monday, with nighttime temperatures in the 30s. Forecasters predict the warm trend to continue, with a slight cooling for the weekend. Snow melt has been rapid, and no precipitation is expected in the near future.
