Nicholson accepts job as miller in Rochester
Matt NIcholson left Minneota on Tuesday night and headed to Rochester, where he has accepted a position as miller in a mill in that city. Mrs. NIcholson and their children will remain here until the end of the first school semester at which time they expect to join Mr. Nicholson.
Farm Bureau to build Town Hall in Eidsvold
The Farm Bureau members of the Eidsvold Township are talking about building a town hall in that township. They say that there is a lot of sentiment for such a project and that there is also a lot of need for a good town hall.
Community expert to give lecture in area
Dr. Frank Weber, the community expert, will give a lecture at Taunton on Friday evening of this week, and also on Saturday evening at the Anderson Opera House in Minneota. All the lectures are free of charge.
Day trains will start to run here again
The day passenger trains will be on again Monday of this week. The trains have been off now for several months, and the people here have had to depend entirely upon the night trains for mail and transportatation.

Hallgrimson files for council re-election
For a while this week Minneota had three candidates for the office of Village Trustee in the coming election, but that was all changed on Wednesday when Joseph Josefson, who had filed for that post, withdrew his name, leaving Jonas E. Askdal and Carl Christianson, cafe proprietor, candidates for the office. All three men had filed Tuesday for the position now being held by Elmer Swanson, who did not file for re-election. The only other person to throw their hat into the ring by the time the filing period closed on Tuesday was E.O. Hallgrimson, who filed for re-election as president of the village council. He entered his name last Saturday.
Lakefield man named creamery manager here
Marvin Bakalyar of Lakefield has been elected manager of the Minneota Cooperative Creamery and will succeed Melvin Hanson, who recently handed in his resignation to the board of directors. Mr. Bakalyar will take over his duties here the first of next year. Mr. Hanson, who has been manager of the creamery for the past three years, has made no definite plans on what he will do after he leaves the creamery, but will remain at the plant for two weeks or so to help Mr. Bakalyar get acquainted with the routine.
Local firemen called to Gamble Store
Minneota's Fire Department was called the Gamble Store on Thursday morning of this week when an overheated stove pipe threatened to start a blaze No damage was reported.
$400 more turned in for Legion building
Although the drive to raise funds to complete the Legion building was practically halted in the country districts by last Saturday's five-inch snowfall, $400 more has been turned into that fund by solicitors during the past week. This raises total contributions to $7,500 and leaves about $3,100 yet to be raised. Haslen and Son, who are erecting the building, are continuing their work on the building whenever the weather conditions permit.

Sheriff, dog are guests of Rotary
The Minneota Rotary Club had John Tomasek, the Lyon County Sheriff, as its program guest last week. Tomasek had his well-trained German Shepherd police dog along as part of the program. Using one of the Rotarians as an "agitator", the sheriff demonstrated how a police dog could aid in law enforcement.
Van Hyfte injured in corn combine accident
In still another area corn combine accident, Odell Van Hyfte sustained two broken fingers and suffered severe bruises and lacerations of his left hand last Tuesday. Van Hyte is regularly employed in road construction by G.A. Olson of Marshall, but because of inclement weather, he was assisting Leon Ousman with corn harvest at the time of the misfortune. His gloved hand had caught under a v-belt pulley. He was treated at the Minneota Clinic and released.
New business to open in Minneota
A new business venture for Minneota, the "Knit and Stitch Shop", will open for business next Tuesday, Nov, 21 at 109 East Lyon Street. Proprietors of the business are Mrs. Leonard Richards and Mrs. Julian Gislason.
Porter Locker Plant reveals hunting success
The locker plant in Porter was the scene of considerable activity on Monday morning, said proprietor Robert Kallhoff. Around 80 deer were taken in this vicinity during the one-day hunting season on Saturday of last week and brought to the locker plant for processing. Kallhoff said one party of 10 hunters returned with eight deer. But he also said that another party of 13 hunters only brought in two deer. Albert Raeder, manager of the MInneota-Ghent-Taunton Cooperative Oil Co. reported Monday that 40 deer were brought into his firm's service station.

Southwest Sportsmen to host 23rd Fun Night
The Southwest Sportsmen Club, Inc. is inviting the public to its 23rd annual Fun Night on Nov. 22 at the American Legion. A Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun will be raffled off. The Fun Night will have various games of chance and Bingo with Thanksgiving turkeys and hams as pries. There will also be other game tables, drawings, raffles and a small auction during the evening.
Semi-load of trusses falls into Hwy 68 ditch
A semi-load of trusses was inadvertently deposited into the ditch along Highway 68 east of Minneota on Monday when the driver turned a little too quickly. The Minnesota State Highway Patrol was on the scene, as well as the Minneota Police and Fire Departments, helping to divert traffic until the semi and trailer could be moved off the highway. No injuries were reported.
Smith named section's top volleyball coach
Sandy Smith was named the Section 11 Coach of the Year in volleyball as voted by her section peers. Smith started the volleyball program in Minneota 24 years ago. The Vikings were 22-5 this season, placing first in the conference and second in the section. Names all-conference this year were Chrissi Boulton, Brittany Dalager and Sarah Johnson.
