Lyon County's EJ Moberg honored

The Minnesota Association of County Officers (MACO) named its members of the year award recipients that included E.J. Moberg, Lyon County Auditor-Treasurer, and Amber Bougie, Hennepin County Chief Deputy Recorder. The awards were presented at the Annual MACO conference held February 11-15 in Bloomington, Minn.

"I'm honored to receive the award.  While success if not measured by any award or plaque, I would not have been considered without the contributions and support of staff, co-workers, Commissioners, the Administrator, and the CPT partners," said Moberg.

MACO is comprised of county Auditors, Treasurers, Recorders, Finance Officers and Registrars in Minnesota. All 87 Minnesota counties are members. The MACO organization is made up of two individual associations — the Minnesota Association of Auditors, Treasurers, and Finance Officers (MACATFO) and a separate association the Minnesota Association of County Recorders (MCRA).

From 1980 through 2016 there were separate awards for Auditor and Treasurer of the year.  For 2017 the award was renamed MACATFO outstanding member of the year so finance officers and other non-traditional titles could be eligible and there were 2 recipients.  This is the first year the award was only presented to one MACATFO member since the awards started in 1980.

"The recipient is not told ahead of time, but my wife was informed so she and my parents were present when I received the honor.  The presenter talked about the recipient without mentioning a name ...  but it didn’t take long for me to realize I was about to go on stage," said Moberg.

"I believe I was selected in part because of Counties Providing Technology (CPT), which is a project I led where 23 counties formed a joint powers entity to purchase a software company that provides programming and support services to counties in MN and ND (property tax, payroll, highway cost accounting, etc.)."

Also at the annual MACO meeting and conference, Becky McCann, Jackson County Recorder, was named president of MACO for 2019. She follows Randy Schreifels, Stearns County Auditor-Treasurer, as MACO president. Newly elected members to the MACO Board of Directors representing regions of the state were Linda Libal, Lake County Auditor-Treasurer; Char Rosenow, Douglas County Auditor-Treasurer; and Mary Ann DeGroot, Pipestone County Recorder.

Gary Poser, retired Directory of Elections at the Secretary of State office, was named to the MACO Honor Roll.
