Hearing set on housing project
The Minneota City Council Monday has called for a public hearing for the proposed Gorecki Subdivision Project, which is a proposed housing development on the northwest edge of Minneota on Monroe Street near the current burn site.
The hearing will give Minneota residents the opportunity to hear the Tax Increment Financing plan for the development.
The hearing has been set for 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 11 in an effort to establish the Tax Increment Financing District and to adopt the financing plan.
The council plans to develop the property with two cul-de-sacs, one with single homes and the other with twin homes.
There are seven lots on one cul-de-sac and six in the other.
At the last meeting, the council hired Duininck of Prinsburg for land preparation. They are expected to begin when possible this spring.
The council is aware of potential developers for the sites.
Monday they dealt only with setting the public hearing. Still on the agenda in future meetings will be the lot prices, earnings money policies and covenants for the project.
IN OTHER action the board:
•Was asked by Wayne Wyffels to lower the special assessment on a parcel of property he is selling. Previously the council lowered it from $34,726 to $14,726. He appeared before the council Monday asking for an additional reduction on the special assessment. The council lowered the assessment to $10,000.
•Approved the appointment of three new volunteer firemen: Matthew Boettger, Keith Downing and Jason Myhre. Positions are conditional on passing a medical physical and background check. Also approved a gambling permit for the fire department for an upcoming raffle.
•Approved a request by Minneota School Supt. Dan Deitte to spray K. P. Kompelien Field for mosquitoes. Supt. Deitte indicated the school was willing to help pay the cost of spraying at the baseball field. The council suggested they charge the school $75 per spraying, which will likely be done every other week. The proposal will be sent back to Supt. Deitte for approval by the school board.
•Approved the appointment of Gail Perrizo to the Minneota Public Library Board.
•Held the “Local Board of Appeals and Equalization,” with Lyon County Assessor Sherri Kitchenmaster and others from the county on hand to answer questions from the public. Several community members met with the officials to question the assessments of their property. The council also submitted questions regarding city property. The county officials made some changes with property owners and the public hearing was closed by the council.
•Approved a proposal to build a Kiosk that will include a city map to be constructed near the walking path and intersection behind the swimming pool. The cost will be about $990. The Statewide Health Improvement Partnership will contribute $500 and community organizations will also be asked to contribute to the project.
