First Responders are busy

Minnesota’s First Responders continue to work on training and Field Training Operations with the crew of 24 active members.

Dan DeSmet of North Ambulance appeared before the Minneota City Council Monday night and told the council the First Responder group is up and going after the initial training.

“We’ve got them on protocol,” said DeSmet. He said the Minneota Ambulance has been “decaled” and equipment stocked in the ambulance.

“We’re going to be doing a drill in September at the school,” said DeSmet and indicated North and the Minneota responders are working well together.

“We hope to help out with National Night Out and perhaps get a helicopter up her for the kids to see,” he said. May has been a busy month for the responders.

“We had 15 calls in May, up from 10 in April,” indicated a report from the responders.

A board of directors has been formed and the group has applied for status so they can receive donations and have fundraisers as a non-profit organization.

North Ambulance had 20 plus jackets they are no longer using and they are being screen-printed with Emergency Medical Responders on them.

DeSmet reported, “So far this year we’ve had 63 calls.” He said there were also quite a few calls to Taunton and Ghent, which were previously in Minneota’s domain.

He indicated they have worked with officials at the Minneota Manor for a better understanding of how to use the ambulance at the Minneota Manor.
