Although .24 of an inch of rain fell here from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, crops in the area are suffering from a lack of moisture and the situation may become very serious, according to farmers, unless it rains within a week. Hot weather, with drying breezes, which is accompanying the dry spell isn't doing the crops or gardens and lawns, much good either. Farmers report that while the top soil is very dry there is plenty of moisture deeper in the ground.

Village Council requests that residents save water
Because there is a shortage of water here, the Village Council is publishing a notice in this week's Mascot asking that residents of Minneota refrain from sprinkling lawns and gardens during the dry spell. Council members say that there is enough water for ordinary use but that using it for sprinkling may reduce the reserve to a point where it would be dangerous if a fire should break out. The village recently contracted with a Minneapolis firm to dig a well for additional supply of water and this concern has guaranteed to supply the village with a flow of 100 gallons a minute.
