Bang sells interest in barber shop here to James Bowe
Clarence Bang of Minneota disposed of his interest in the Bang & Bowe Barber Shop to partner James Bowe on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Bang are planning to move to California.
Minneota high school students enjoy Shakespearian recitations
The high school and upper grade students enjoyed a program of Shakespearian and other recitations last Thursday afternoon, given by Mr. Frank Fouche. Mr. Fouche is an experienced lyceum reader and his efforts here were certainly appreciated by all. The trial scene in the "Merchant of Venice", the ghost scene in "Macbeth" and the scene from "Julius Caesar" were all very ably rendered and favorably received.
Helgeson to offer several top-bred sows in auction
H.K. Helgeson, one of this community's prominent breeders of purebred Duroc Jersey hogs, is offering a bunch of his best-bred sows at auction on Saturday evening of this week. The sale, conducted by local auctioneers, will be held in the livery barn here. Helgeson's hogs are recognized as of superior quality and have gained for him a reputation as a breeder of high standing.

Joan Tillemans receives habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph
At a ceremony at St. Joseph's Novitiate in St. Paul last Friday, Miss Joan Tillemans, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Tillemans, received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name of Sister St. Rose. Miss Tillemans is a graduate of Minneota High School and the College of St. Catherine. For two years, she was the chief librarian at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in St. Cloud, and she resigned that position last September to enter the novitiate.
School board deadlocked on hiring of new superintendent
Minneota's Board of Education was deadlocked in the matter of rehiring Supt. R.T. Lovell for the coming school term. A motion was made and seconded that Supt. Lovell be hired at his present salary. The vote on this motion was tied and consequently did not carry. Superintendent Lovell was paid $3,700 for serving as the head of Minneota's public school system the past year. If no action is taken concerning Supt. Lovell's contract before April 1, the previous agreement automatically goes into force.
Village loses contract suit tried in State Supreme Court
The village lost its suit in the State Supreme Court in which it sought to force Fairbanks-Morse and Company to carry out a contract for the construction of a power plant and distribution system, in a decision handed down last Friday. The company, although willing to perform the contract entered into with the Minneota Village Council on Aug, 16, 1940, was legally prevented from doing so because of wartime restrictions. The high court's decision agreed with Judge Gustavus Loevinger of Ramsey District Court, who ruled that the St. Paul firm found it impossible to start construction of the plant.

Buysse, Olafson named local Girls, Boys Staters
Jolynn Buysse, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Buysse, and David Olafson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Olafson, were named Girls and Boys Staters, respectively. Buysse was appointed by the Legion Auxiliary and Olafson by the American Legion. Alternates are Catherine Laleman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Omer Laleman; and Richard Van Dorpe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Van Dorpe. Girls State is to be held at the College of St. Catherine June 3-9, while Boys State is to be at St. John's University in Collegeville June 10-16.
Brent Larson named to All-State Lutheran Choir
Brent Larson, the son of Supt. and Mrs. Ralph Larson, has been named the 1973 All-State Lutheran Choir. The group, to consist of 45 high school juniors and seniors, will assemble at Clearwater Camp near Brainerd for eight days of intensive training. They will then spend the rest of June touring in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and North Dakota.
Two local VFW members receive honorary citations
Two members of the local VFW post, Leonard Boulton and Thomas Hovland, have received citations for accomplishments. Mr. Boulton was awarded quartermaster citation and commendation for his "zealous cooperation, writing industry and prompt wording of per capita tax transmittals which had enabled his post to attain a membership of 100 percent for the current year." Mr. Hovland received a post commander citation for his "noteworthy achievement in presenting to his successor a post membership strength equal to or greater than the previous year's total."

Larson, Gawarecki chosen as Girls' Staters from Minneota
Marilyn Russell, President of Post #199 of the American Legion Auxiliary and Darlyne Larson of the selection committee are proud to announce that Alisha Larson is their nominee for Girls' State and Mandy Gawarecki is the alternate. Both girls are juniors at Minneota High School. Larson is the daughter of Paul and Wendy Larson of Minneota. Gawarecki is the daughter of Lonnie Gawarecki of Taunton and Rhonda Gawarecki of Ruthton.
Minneota named Tree City USA by Arbor Day Federation
Minneota has been selected as a Tree City USA recipient by the National Arbor Day Federation. This is the fourth year that Minneota has received this recognition. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the NADF in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters.
Minneota students compete in MATHCOUNTS in Marshall
The Southwest Regional MATHCOUNTS competition was held recently at Southwest State University in Marshall. There were 13 area schools participated. The Minneota Public School team was comprised of Stephanie Lamfers, Melissa Regnier, Nicole Regnier and David Wambeke. That team was coached by Judy Hagen The St. Edward's Catholic School team was comprised of Jesse Bottelberghe, Ryan Fier, Emily Kopfmann and Aulaire Schmitz. They were coached by Brenda Verschelde.
