It’s hard to believe but Christmas is only a few days away! Television networks like the “Hallmark Channel” and “Freeform” have been in the holiday spirit for weeks already.
I was personally upset when the Hallmark Channel decided to quit airing the Golden Girls on Halloween to start showing all Christmas movies until New Year’s.
Now that I’ve watched a couple Hallmark Channel movies with my sister, I’m more into the holiday spirit, but they could at least show the holiday episodes of the Golden Girls!
If you haven’t watched any holiday movies on the Hallmark Channel, either forcibly or willingly, I will do a public service and give you the plot of almost every movie.
The story usually begins in a large city where the main character is preparing for Christmas. Some work or personal dilemma occurs, derailing their plans for a perfect Christmas.
As they attempt to overcome the dilemma, they usually end up in a small, charming town in a rural area. There is where they meet an eligible bachelor or bachelorette from the small town that is now the love interest of the story.
Eventually, a nice Christmas celebration occurs where the main character and their love interest enjoy a happy holiday together. Even though I know EXACTLY how these stories will go, I still enjoy watching them.
They are nice, feel good stories that even though are a little too sweet at times, are still a nice way to share the holidays with family and friends.
My sister’s slight obsession and my “can’t look away” mentality to these movies made the wheels in my head start turning.
What are my favorite Christmas movies? I have not seen every Christmas movie produced and there is a chance that one of your favorites is left off my list. If you have a good one, I’m always game for a recommendation.
Without further ado, here is my list of favorite Christmas movies.
1. Elf – This 2003 modern classic starring Will Ferrell is goofy and a feel good movie. The lines are quotable all year round. I love the story about an human that was adopted by one of Santa’s elves that wanted to meet his biological father in New York City.
2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – I thoroughly enjoy this movie and I couldn’t decide to list is first or second. This 1989 classic starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo makes me laugh every time.
The Christmas season really doesn’t start for me until I watch this movie. This is one of my brother Grady’s favorite movies. The lines are so quotable and the crazy family members make it relatable. Ask one of us about Grace sometime.
I bet we say, “The Blessing!” Just like Elf, it doesn’t seem to age.
3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas – I personally enjoy both versions, the animated and live. Some of the lines that Jim Carrey’s Grinch delivers are so relatable. As he’s getting ready to join the Who’s in Whoville, he can’t decide what to wear. He finally says, “Well, I’m not going!” Most people can relate, at least I can.
4. Christmas with the Kranks – This movie stars Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis. It can be down right ridiculous at moments in the movie, but the overall message is a good one.
5. Home Alone series – It’s every kid’s dream, to hang out at home alone. These movies are clever and funny but there is no way it could happen today.
Bubbling under: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Annabelle’s Wish, Jingle All the Way and the Santa Clause with Tim Allen trilogy.
All these movies are great, but the best part is watching them with family during the holidays.
