75 Years ago-December 17, 1943
Evans-Dandurand
Miss Adeline Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.. Emil Evans of Lynd became the bride of Frederick Dandurand of Green Valley on Wednesday afternoon, November 24. The groom is the son of Mrs. A. Morrisette.
Cossette-Halvorson
The wedding of Irene Halvorson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Halvorson, and Cpl. Kenneth Cossette, son of John L. Cossette of Ewa Ohau, Hawaii, took place November 12, at the post chapel of the SPAAF, Lubock, Texas.
Steyaert-Anderson
Miss Jone Anderson, daughter of Mrs. Hulda Anderson, and Cpl. Francis C. Steyaert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Steyaert, were married at St. Edward’s church parsonage on Friday, December 10.

50 Years Ago-December 19, 1968
Season’s initial snow storm mauled this area Thursday
Though the day was 13 days distant, persons in this area who were “dreaming of a white Christmas" got their wish last week when winds from the northwest blew a four-inch snowfall into huge drifts and sent temperatures skidding downward in this community.
Arts promotion group
These six women were among about 60 from all section of southwestern Minnesota who met at Southwest State College the first of the month to make initial plans for promoting art in the 19-county area. The six women are Mrs. Glen Kvernmo, Hendricks; Mrs. C.J. Wiersma and Mrs. Earl Fellman, Pipestone; Mrs. J.A. Josefson and Mrs. E.E. Nordquist, Minneota; and Mrs. F.J. Almjeld, Wabasso.
Winter named top salesman
Melvin Winter of rural Minneota was honored for top sales in the company’s southwest Minnesota district and presented with a gold watch at the Archer Petroleum Corporation’s 40th year convention in Omaha, Neb., December 6.
Busy Trappers
Minneota may have several trappers, but none are as busy these days as Charlie and Pat Dero. They had trapped two beavers before the snows came (one weighing 68 pounds and the other 37). Pat, speaking for the two, said that trapping should improve now, that the snow was no bother to the industrious brothers and that they hoped to spend many evenings skinning pelts.

St. Eloi Catholic School in Ghent presents Christmas Operetta
Stacy Schroepfer, Amy DeVries, Kelsey Crowley, Nathan VanKeulen and Nate Schroepfer are some of the fifth and sixth graders that did a scene for the operetta on Tuesday evening of this week during “dress rehearsal”.
Volunteers entertained
Pastor Simor Fensom and Bill Holm (at the piano) were the featured entertainment for the Minneota Manor Volunteer Christmas recognition staged last Tuesday at the facility. The two led songs, Bill read some of his original works, and they were both very entertaining.
Going for two
Chuck Josephson was high in the air as he appeared to palm the ball into the basket. The Vikings defeated Lake Benton/Verdi on Monday night to set them at 1-1 this season.
Sussner has hot night for Vikings vs RTR
The girls’ basketball team has had two tough teams to open their schedule this season-the Tracy Area Panthers on Tuesday night and the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights on Friday night. And the Vikings’ Jodi Sussner had a hot night to lead the Vikes against RTR.
Enjoying a visit from Santa
Courtney Rogge, Codi Skaar and Joseph Kack seemed to enjoy a “friendly chat” with the jolly ole fellow when he stopped in to visit the Story Hour held last Saturday morning in the Minneota Public Library.
Gifts galore
The Home Economics room was a major gift center this week as the Toys for Tots Program nears its completion. Students were wrapping some of the final gifts that were included in the family units. There were about sixty families that will feel the real spirit of the season through these holiday gift packages.
