Dakota storyteller and artist Walter “Super” LaBatte Jr. will give a presentation at Southwest Minnesota State University

Dakota storyteller and artist Walter “Super” LaBatte Jr. will give a presentation at Southwest Minnesota State University in the SMSU Conference Center Ballroom.

Labatte is from Pejuhutazizi Kapi (the place where they dig for yellow medicine), better known as the Upper Sioux Community. He is known in native circles for his traditional process of tanning deer hides, making beaded moccasins, drums and his pasdayapi (corn soup).

He turned his life around and found purpose through learning and mastering traditional Dakota crafts.His presentation is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by Access, Opportunity Success (AOS) and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at SMSU.
