While difficult to comprehend, poverty is a reality for many individuals, seniors and families.
While difficult to comprehend, poverty is a reality for many individuals, seniors and families. On October 11, United Way of Southwest Minnesota will host a “Poverty Simulation”, designed to help individuals better understand poverty by stepping into the real-life situations of others struggling with, and living in, poverty.
The event will be held at the National Guard Armory in Marshall.
This is the first simulation being conducted by the United Way with plans to continue offering additional simulations in the future.

History faculty members Joan Gittens, Mike Kopp and Tom Williford will be members of a panel discussion entitled “The Monument Debate: History, Memory and Public Space,” on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Charter Hall 201 on the SMSU campus.
The presentation will deal with the display of Civil War statues, a topic that has been widely discussed in recent months.
The event is free and open to the public.
