Douglas Leibfried

Douglas Leo “Doug” Leibfried, 77, of Shakopee, MN entered eternal rest on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at The Parish of Saints Joachim and Anne, Church of St. Mary, 535 Lewis Street South in Shakopee. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 4-7 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m., both at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation at 1220 3rd Ave. E. in Shakopee. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the Mass at church.
Doug was born on Dec. 22, 1946, the son of Leo Ernest and Onelea Shirley (Seemann) Leibfried. Doug was a 1964 graduate of Minneota High School. That’s where he met Barb, whom he would go on to marry. When Barb went off to radiology school in Minneapolis, Doug soon followed. He was lucky enough to be united in marriage to Barbara Ann Claeys on Aug. 8, 1969, in Ghent, MN at St. Eloi Catholic Church.
They made their home in Shakopee, where they raised four children. Doug was a devoted Catholic and raised his children with God in their hearts, too.
Doug was employed with Control Data in Bloomington, MN for many years as their warehouse manager. He then worked for Lewis Engineering in Chaska, Bradford Logistics at MSP Airport, and in later years served as a “professional driver” for NAPA Auto Parts in Prior Lake, MN.
Doug was involved at the church as usher, with the Knights of Columbus, and took part in the Passion Play. He was athletic too, playing a lot of softball, and doing couples bowling with Barb. The family had a cabin in Crosslake where many weekends were spent fishing and boating the lakes. His kids gained a lot of strength and determination trying to stay on their tubes when Doug was driving the boat. You could often find Doug taking in sporting events on TV, and he was devoted fan to all the Minnesota teams, particularly the Vikings. He coached both his sons in football, and all of his kids fondly remember that he showed up to every game or match, no matter the sport. He carried that on with his grandkids as well. He completed the daily crossword puzzle and enjoyed playing cards and games, especially cribbage, pinochle and later Carbles. He enjoyed travel, once making a trip to Rome for he and Barb’s 50th anniversary. The family went to Branson to celebrate Doug’s 75th birthday, he and Barb took a Caribbean cruise, visited the Black Hills in South Dakota, and he took a trip to England with his sister Nancy.
Doug was a man of many great traits. His wit and humor were like no others. His hard work and determination were always on display. The love and support of his family never wavered. He was a man of his word and in business and play you always knew you could count on Doug. He will by truly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; his children Tom Leibfried, Erin (Tye) Ferguson, Alissa (Kyle) Haack, and John (Emily) Leibfried; grandchildren, Carly (Jake) Robinson and their children, Ryan and Riley; Lex (Adrianna) Leibfried and their son, Brock; Ariana Leibfried and her son, Matteo; Jack and Lucy Ferguson; Tallulah Haack; and John Henry, Grace and Luke Leibfried; his sister, Nancy Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Leibfried and Onelea (Leibfried) Dero; his son, Chad, who died as an infant; and brother-in-law, Al Johnson.
