BRIAN TIMMERMAN

1961-2024

Mass of Christian Burial for Brian Joseph Timmerman, 63, of Minneota, was held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Visitation was on Sunday, June 16 at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall, including a rosary and a prayer service. Visitation continued one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment followed at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.
Brian Joseph Timmerman was born on April 15, 1961, in Marshall, to Archie and Madeline (Boncquet) Timmerman. He attended St. Eloi Catholic School for his elementary years and graduated from Minneota High school in 1979. Brian received all of his sacraments at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. On May 14, 1983, Brian married the love of his life, Darla Wyffels.
Brian lived his entire life on the family farm, north of Ghent where he and Darla worked side by side and raised their three sons: Daryl, Josh, and Kyle. Together they raised hogs for many years and grew corn and soybeans. Brian loved his family and sacrificed for them regularly, often working late into the night so he could attend their activities. He was a very caring and loving person. He loved spending time out at the gravel pit, especially camping, fishing, chatting around the bonfire, and hunting with family and friends.
In recent years, Brian and Darla enjoyed getting away and spending more time with family and attending their grandchildren’s activities. Brian was especially proud of his sons and the men that they have become. The boys grew up side-by-side with Brian as he raised them to be his loving friends and helpers as they spent many hours talking through projects and ways to accomplish them best. Brian’s example of intentional fatherhood is evident in the way his boys are now raising their own families. He was always first to say “I love you” and to tell the grandkids “you make grandpa’s heart happy.”
Brian was very involved in his church and local community where he served on the Lyon County Farm Service board of directors for 18 years. Brian was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He served multiple terms on the St. Eloi and St. Edward Catholic School Education committees and taught CCD for several years. His Catholic faith was very important to him. He loved spending time in adoration with the Sisters of Mary Morning Star, attending That Man Is You, giving witness talks at the annual Emmaus retreats, and attending the Exodus 90.
Brian died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, as the result of a farming accident. He is survived by his wife Darla of Minneota; son Daryl (Angela) and their three children, Jillian, Garrison, and Novalynn of Mankato; son Josh (Desiree) and their four children, Madeline, Ella, Logan, and Hazel of Ghent; son Kyle (Jenna) and their three children, Clara, Bennett, and Josie of Parkston, SD; siblings Gordy (Judy) Timmerman, Mary Jean (Charlie) Coudron, Joyce (Glen) Kesteloot, Linda (Kevin) Honetschlager, Mark (Pam) Timmerman, all of Marshall, and Bruce (Carla) Timmerman of Rushford; mother- and father-in-law Angie and Don Wyffels; and in-laws Deb (Steve) Gniffke, Dean (Penny) Wyffels, Dale (Joane) Wyffels, and Doug (Kirsten) Wyffels. He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Madeline Timmerman, and sister Denise Timmerman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Birthright, Choices Pregnancy Center and St. Edward’s Catholic School.
