ODELL VAN HYFTE

Odell V. Van Hyfte, 91, of Sherburn, MN passed away at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Fairmont, MN on Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2025.
Visitation with the family will be from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026 at the Kramer Funeral Home, (107 North Osborne St.) Sherburn, Minnesota.
Odell Victor Van Hyfte was born on July 30, 1934 to Herman and Stephanie (Dollander) Van Hyfte on the family farm in Burton Township, Yellow Medicine, rural Granite Falls, Minnesota. He received his education in rural country school until the 8th grade. Odell worked in construction in the area. He was united in marriage to Mary Stone and a daughter, Leslie was born. They later divorced. In 1960 he was employed as a truck driver and worked on road construction where he operated a yellow caterpillar or bulldozer. In 1975, he met Cindy Schwager and was his life partner for fifty years. Odell enjoyed watching Western movies and enjoyed having coffee with his coffee buddies. He also drove cars for Hawkins Chevrolet.
He is survived by his life partner, Cindy Schwager of Sherburn, Minnesota; daughters, Tara of Mankato, Minnesota and Leslie (Gary) Fier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandchildren; sister, Audrey Kack of Canby, Minnesota and other relatives.
Odell was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Stephanie Van Hyfte; sister, Agnes Swanson and other relatives.
The Kramer Funeral Home of Sherburn, Trimont and Welcome, is in charge of arrangements.
