SILVER SPURS HOSTING OBSTACLE RUN JUNE 10
The Silver Spurs Saddle Club will be hosting an Obstacle Course Competition Saturday, June 10 at the Silver Spurs Arena in Minneota.
The event, which begins at 10 a.m., will include three divisions: PeeWee, Youth and Adult. Spectators are welcome. There is no cost to attend.
The course will feature around 10 obstacles, although the disclosure of all of the obstacles will not be revealed to the riders until the day of the event in order to make the competition more fair.
Trail obstacles are proven to help horses build confidence to go through different situations in general life, as well as helping them think before they react to each of the obstacles, enhances their reaction time, boosts their listening skills, and increases the overall riding ability that helps the rider bond and perform better. "This is a fun event that is designed to desensitize the horse," said Brooke Buysse of the Silver Spurs Saddle Club. "I think it's good to expose horses to new things. Most of the obstacles we will have at the event are things that a horse would encounter out on a trail or on a working ranch."
An example of some of the types of obstacles that might be used will be a small bridge that the horse will have to walk over, small objects the horse will have to jump over, or walking over a tarp.
Each event will be timed with each obstacle required to be completed in two minutes or less to avoid a penalty deduction.
The Barrel Racing Series will resume on Wednesday, June 14 at the Silver Spurs Arena.
